Richmond, Va.– Eileen Filler-Corn, Speaker-Designee of the Virginia House of Delegates, released the following statement on Governor Ralph Northam’s budget proposal for Fiscal Years 2020–2022.
“The budget proposal presented by Governor Northam this morning makes important investments in Virginia’s future in a disciplined, fiscally prudent manner. I applaud the Governor’s historic commitment to improve Virginia’s education system, protect our precious natural resources, address infant and maternal mortality, and make critical improvements to mental health care in the Commonwealth- all while maintaining our AAA bond rating and adding $300 Million to what would be a record setting ‘Rainy Day’ cash reserve.
“This legislative session, I look forward to working with the Governor, House Appropriations Chairman-elect Luke Torian, House Finance Chairwoman-elect Vivian Watts, and the rest of my colleagues in the General Assembly to pass a biennial budget that delivers the progress Virginians voted for in November in a financially restrained fashion that preserves and strengthens Virginia’s economy.”
