Richmond, VA — Virginia House Speaker Eileen Filler-Corn released the following statement Wednesday in response to Governor Ralph Northam’s speech to the Joint Meeting of the House Appropriations, House Finance and Senate Finance & Appropriations Committees:
“Throughout this pandemic we have met the moment by acting prudently while supporting our small businesses and workers struggling to get by. We have made record investments in our infrastructure and education while ensuring we prioritize public health and public safety. We have laid the foundation for an economic recovery that will build Virginia back even stronger.
“Due to responsible governance from the Governor and the General Assembly, Virginia is emerging from this pandemic in historically strong financial standing with a $2.6 billion surplus.
“I want to thank Governor Northam for his leadership and for his administration’s efforts to work collaboratively with the General Assembly to make sure we are meeting the needs of the people of Virginia.”
