Richmond, VA – Today, Democratic Leader Eileen Filler-Corn issued the following statement regarding the Arlington Circuit Court’s ruling:
“Today, the Circuit Court of Arlington rendered a decision in favor of seven of Virginia’s largest school boards in their lawsuit against Governor Youngkin’s unconstitutional repeal of mask requirements in our schools.
As I have said from the start, local school boards should decide what is needed to keep students healthy and safely learning in person. Unfortunately, Governor Youngkin has acted to satisfy a narrow political base at the expense of Virginia students and their families during this surge in COVID-19 cases. This decision is a victory for our children, the health and safety of our communities, and all of us who believe public health policy should be driven by science not politics. I continue to hope the Governor will repeal his order and end the need to pursue further legal challenges, it is time the Governor put our children first.”
